Reading Eggs announced a new feature that enables teachers to easily access written versions of the auditory reading assessments they give to their students through the Read Aloud assignment capability. This new feature allows educators to better understand their students’ skills and weaknesses in both decoding and reading authentic texts.
The Read Aloud feature enables students to record themselves reading selected texts from a stress-free familiar environment, easing anxieties and boosting confidence and fluency. Educators can assign Read Aloud for any title in a vast digital library of more than 4,000 books and decodable readers. Educators then review students’ recordings, make grades and provide valuable feedback. The new addition allows teachers to access the texts students are reading to better assess students’ grasp of punctuation, tone, context and more.
“The push for this change came directly from teachers who sought an easier way to view the authentic texts their students were reading while reviewing their progress,” said Allison Ireland, Director of Product at 3P Learning. “We met this request head on and immediately began working to integrate this feature into the platform. The addition comes amid ongoing debate among education thought leaders over the overall effectiveness of the Science of Reading and the idea that real-world texts and phonics-based lessons are mutually exclusive teaching methods. By allowing educators to listen to students’ reading recordings and view the exact texts being read, Reading Eggs enables educators to assess progress in both decoding and authentic texts simultaneously.
