Turnitin, the global leader in plagiarism detection, and the National Honor Society (NHS) will team up to promote academic integrity in K-12 schools, according to a release from the company.
The announcement says the mutual effort will, “help raise awareness and encourage students to always be honest, to respect intellectual property through proper citation, and not to cheat or take shortcuts in their schoolwork.”
Chris Caren, CEO of Turnitin, said in the release that the arrangement brings together, “two leading organizations dedicated to upholding the ideals of academic integrity” and “takes a top-to-bottom effort to provide instructional tools to teach how to respectfully and properly use intellectual property.”
Announced details of the partnership include co- produced special webinars, collaborations on student programming, and a celebration of the National Honor Society’s 100th birthday in March of 2021.
“Academic integrity is a key component within the NHS core values, and we expect that all members and advisers strive to uphold these standards,” said JoAnn Bartoletti, executive director of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), which serves as the parent organization of NHS, the release says.

Turnitin is used by more than 15,000 academic institutions, publishers, and corporations to improve citation and writing skills and safeguard original work. Turnitin has several popular products including iThenticate, Authorship, Feedback Studio, Originality Check, and Gradescope, which, the NHS announcement says, “can soon be layered with the new Turnitin Originality module, which helps institutions authenticate and verify the authorship of submitted papers, and Draft Coach, which helps students improve their research, citation, and academic writing skills inside of Google Docs.”
